Optimizing muscle injury recovery

Muscle injuries are one of the most common traumas we see at the clinic.

First aid for muscle injuries follows the RICE (Rest, Ice, Compression and Elevation) principle. RICE stops injury-induced bleeding into the muscle tissue. This typically minimizes the extent of the injury.

Injured parties should seek a clinical examination immediately after their injury. Another examination should take place again 5-7 days after the initial trauma.  If immediate immobilization of the injured muscle is necessary, a return to activity should be gradually re-introduced. Once sufficient strength is regained, the client will be able to bear the force of remobilization.

Early return to activity will optimize the regeneration of healing muscle and recovery of the flexibility and strength of the injured muscle to pre-injury levels.

Our rehabilitation programs promote progressive agility and core stabilization exercises.  These exercises yield better outcomes for injured muscles than programs based exclusively on stretching and strengthening of the injured muscle.

If you’d like to book a consultation to discuss your muscle injury, we will put together a
customized rehabilitation program to get you back into pre-injury form safely and securely.
