Strength & Mobility at Home

If you’ve been injured, chances are it will take some time to heal. As a result, you will need to gradually build up the strength again to prevent re-injury. Power and endurance – both are important to the longevity and mobility of your muscles, both contribute to your overall strength & mobility. 

Performing exercises that challenge your range of motion are vital to the overall durability of your body. Our muscles are but a part of the mechanics of the human body. Our joints, ligaments and muscles are all much more content and comfortable when they coordinate and cooperate. Here are a few of our recommended at home tools for building strength and mobility.

Home Shoulder Pulleys / TheraBand Shoulder Pulley

Shoulder pulleys are used for increasing mobility in the shoulders for common injuries like frozen shoulder, rotator cuff tears, and post-surgery rehabilitation. Simple a rope attached to a pulley gear there are tons of exercises that you can do to treat a sore shoulder and/or arm. Check in with your Physiotherapist for recommendations!

Sanctband Tubing with Handles / Thera Loops / Sanctband Loop Band

Resistance is an amazing tool for Physiotherapists because it is an accessible tool for almost all patients and it is a gentle way to build strength after an injury. Resistance bands (& cords) are made in a huge variety to cater to the multitude of exercises that use them. Whether they are in loops, have handles for easy grip, or made with attachments for exercises, they can be used for almost any injury anywhere on the body. 

Dumbbells / Kettlebells / Other Weights.

These are probably the first thing you think of when someone mentions strength training. Weights are great for when you have reached a point in your physio where you need to build strength and power back to an injured area. For some increasing weight may be a priority; for others, it may be more about endurance. Either way, weighted objects are a great asset to a home gym. Depending on the injury and/or workout goals, your choice of weight will depend – as always, it can’t hurt to ask your Physiotherapist if they have any suggestions. 

These products are only a sample of all the ones you have to pick from to increase your overall strength & mobility. As you make your choices of what you need in your home gym, instead of asking yourself how to create the strongest body, challenge yourself to create a routine that creates the most functional body for you. Kevin’s great love for sports arose from years of swimming competitively at both the provincial and national level in Ireland. He nurtures his sports enthusiasm by swimming, going to the gym, practicing yoga and playing golf to continually improve his single-figure handicap. In his free time, Kevin enjoys spending time at the beach with his family and chocolate lab, Hershey.
